Process mapping next phase.
After gathering information on what you do, and how the experience of doing, being, as you do it - gives or takes your energy and attention. The next dimension of the map is to notice which of the three autonomic nervous system states is managing, directing, your energy and attention.
Ok, state one is a primal on off. This is where endogenous opiates come in. This is the place cult leaders send cult members by causing terror, paranoia and love bombing. Outcome? Disorganised attachment. Down here we have dissociation, being petrified, zoning out, bewilderment, confusion, word salad. There are a whole set of physiological effects too. Memories created under this state will not make sense. Reality is vanishing, strobing. Thinking produces weird effects. Overall there is paralysis. Curiously many people find a way to live here - this isn't good.
The pathway out of state one leads through state 2. Fight, flight. A person between 1 and 2 may well use 'fawning' as an attempt to feel safe. The tone is of confession yet 1 needs to get to 2 to get to 3 and 2 is aggressive because 2 isn't paralyzed!
From the struggle for agency of 2, the flow of state 2 to start 3 is anxiety as a person tries to verbalise, recognise, understand and in state 3 we communicate and regulate our breathing rate, our emotional tone in parallel with others. State 3 has virtual access to the other states because it is self aware - from the safety of state 3 we use our cognitive ability to discriminate, chose and decide.
How does this fit on the next phase of the map? Well adding the state tone ( negative, draining is often but not always characteristic of 1. Positive scores can be characteristics of state 2) will lead to more of those subjective statements about what works, what doesn't and what you can try out.
Mapping the autonomic states is a useful exercise in itself. It means going there safely from state 3 with someone (preferably!) who can bring you back. It is done by remembering a time of fight, flight. Imagined as a landscape and described emotional states.
Do not under any circumstances use AI for this. A dog is better than AI, seriously. From state 1 only a being that feels and understands love can get you back to state 3, I'd also advise sitting outside on the good earth, with the trees and sky and a book or podcast and something to eat, to help reconnect body and mind. A secular version of 'ale and cake '.
Getting to safely is vital.
When we are ok, we live in state 3. State 2 can be a sudden, instant of fear which we easily shake off...if we can move away, or do something to make us safe again. Without movement, state 2 produces panic and struggle... when panic and struggle can't get us to state 3, there is an intermediate stage between 2 and 1 ( paralysis and sudden panic) but state 1 can also feel peaceful, psychedelic, as power slips away and a person simply surrenders to the end. State 1 can be entered safely in hypnotherapy and meditation. Just as state 2 can be entered through computer games.
Tip of the iceberg!
So much I could say.
